About Ann-Margaret
Ann-Margaret Giovino (gee-oh-veeno) has been involved in athletics all her life. In Junior High and High School she played on the basketball, soccer, ski and track teams. In track she ran sprints and competed in the javelin, shot put and discus. In 1978, training practices called for lifting weights but it was in the time before Title 9 and there was only a weight lifting program for boys and girls had to wait their turn until after the boys were done lifting. Under the guidance of the High School weight coach, Ann-Margaret and her sister broke new ground.
While getting a degree in Fashion Design at Cornell University the one sport that remained was lifting weights moved into body building then Power lifting and by and by age 30 she was training in competitive Power lifting culminating in an International Gold Medal at age 35. She has held top Power lifting titles the State of Michigan.
Ann-Margaret became a Personal Trainer in 1998 utilizing her Power lifting training to specialize in teaching people how to get strong to support life’s activities. In 2003 she opened Gym Giovino and after years of working solely on strength training with clients she noticed that many were either nursing old injuries by favoring one side of the body thereby creating imbalances, or they were re-injuring themselves forcing themselves into inactivity. Finding that strength training only strengthened the imbalances, and reinforced the cycle of injury, Ann-Margaret began searching for a more fundamental way to help people get strong and also stay pain and injury-free.
In 2007 Ann-Margaret found the Egoscue Method and became a Certified Postural Alignment Specialist through Egoscue. With this method Ann-Margaret successfully coaches clients to become pain-free, injury-free and strong.
